It is a round and elongated fruit, fibrous and oily white meat covered by a hard shell, brown and hairy. When still tender contains a milky fluid that is often used as a staple food in some areas. The coconut is known for its high content of minerals: magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and potassium, also for its great contribution in fibers. Coconut water is considered a refreshing isotonic drink in tropical countries, where people drink directly from the fruit. It can be eaten fresh or in many dishes, especially desserts.
