Tostones are a typical dish of some Latin American countries, specifically the Caribbean. They are based on green plantain or Pinton (almost ripe), so flattened and sometimes accompanied by grated cheese. In the east, it is very common to get them for sale on the beaches because it serves as an appetizer or to accompany dishes like fried fish.

2 green Plantain or pintones (almost ripe) | |

Preparation

Peel plantain and cut into chunks.

In a large skillet, fry the plantains until slightly golden brown in order to have the same consistency when being smashed

Remove them from the skillet when ready and placed on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Smash every piece of plantain with a rolling pin, a mallet or tostonera.

Once the plantain slices are smashed, proceed again to fry until golden brown and crispy.

Remove from the skillet, season with salt and sprinkle with grated white cheese (optional).

Serve and taste.
