These cheese sticks can be served with tomato sauce or marinara sauce among others. Excellent choice when it comes to offering an appetizer at home or as part of a party, it represents a sample of versatility of the cooking in the Venezuelan tables.

For the mozzarella sticks | |

250 gr. of Mozzarella Cheese cut into sticks (about 8 bars) | |
½ cup Wheat Flour | |
2 Eggs | |
1 cup Breadcrumbs | |
For the marinara sauce | |
2 – 3 peeled garlic cloves | |
half an Onion | |
1 Red Bell Pepper or nearly mature (not so big) | |
½ cup White Wine | |
1 tablespoon of Cornstarch | |
1 spoonful of concentrated Tomato Paste | |
Olive Oil | |
A pinch of Salt |

Preparation
For the mozzarella sticks

Introduce mozzarella bars in the freezer for 15 minutes with a layer of flour (so that when baking, they cannot melt).

Preheat the oven to 200 °C.

Place in separate containers previously beaten egg, breadcrumbs and flour.

Take a loaf of cheese at a time and cover with a layer of flour.

Dip bars in egg and coat in flour again so that they are completely sealed.

Dip again in the beaten egg and roll in breadcrumbs.

Repeat the procedure with all the bars.

Place all bars on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 10 – 15 minutes or until golden brown.
For the marinara sauce

Cut the garlic, onion and pepper into cubes.

Fry in one or two tablespoons of oil and a pinch of salt until caramelized.

Add wine and tomato paste and cook for a few minutes until alcohol evaporates.

Dissolve a tablespoon of cornstarch in half glass of water and add to skillet, stirring continuously.

Cook over medium heat for 5-10 minutes (stirring), until desired consistency.
